Food can absorb a sizable portion of your wedding budget. Sit down meals, buffets, or food stations are all very expensive. A dessert wedding reception is a delicious alternative. There is one important thing to bear in mind and that is you must let the guests know that you are not serving a meal. Here are some suggestions for your invitation:
- A Dessert Reception will follow the ceremony.
- Please join us for a Dessert Reception following the ceremony.
- Please join us after the ceremony for dessert.
The only rule as to when a Dessert Reception can be held is NOT at meal time. Dessert Receptions can be held in the afternoon or in the evening after the dinner hour, from 8:30 PM onwards and they can be quite elegant. Wolfgang Puck, one of the most famous of the celebrity chefs recommends this menu for a Champagne & Dessert Reception:
- Assortment of Cheeses and Fresh Fruit
- Petit Fours
- Chocolate Dipped Strawberries
- NY Style Cheesecake Squares
- Heart Shaped Red Sugared Buttermilk Cakes with Crème Fraiche and Strawberries
- Tiramisu Cups
- Wedding Cake
- Champagne, Soft Drinks, Sparking Water, Coffee, Tea
There are many other Dessert Reception options:
- A chocolate fountain with assorted fruit, marshmallows, cookies, and pretzels for dipping or a table filled with chocolate desserts.
- An ice cream sundae table with vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream and a variety of toppings - chocolate sauce, whipped cream, crushed nuts, fruit chunks, chocolate chips, and sprinkles.
- A table for the wedding cake.
- A cookie table filled with your favourites.
- A candy table with bowls of jelly beans, jujubes, licorice, assorted hard candies, lollipops, smarties, lifesavers, and mints.
Don’t forget to include a variety of sugar-free choices so that all of your guests can enjoy dessert.
