Winter weddings can be absolutely stunning! Work with the season to create the most elegant and dramatic looks in décor and attire. Here are a few of the latest winter wedding trends:

Wedding Colours:

Although they are classics, there is more to life than red and green. Try white, silver, and/or ice blue instead.

Invitations:

Use a heavy card stock. Compliment your colour scheme with envelopes lined in silver.

Hand calligraphy is definitely in.

Flowers:

Red roses, calla lilies, and amaryllis are classic winter wedding flowers. For a vintage feel, try white roses. A soft, romantic look can be achieved with white hydrangeas.

Wrap the stems of your bridal bouquet with ribbons. For a touch of the Ritz select ribbons embellished with sequins, beads, or crystals.

We don't have words to say thank you, our wedding was gorgeous.

As a wedding planner, I thought it would be difficult to plan my own wedding, we were so glad to found The Toronto Wedding Chapel, as unique, and cozy venue to have a intimate and romantic wedding.

We loved how everything looked exactly as we planned, the hors d’oeuvres were delicious and were presented beautifully, chapel decor and our officiant was incredible.

For us the most important thing, was to have an internet service, so my parents could be online during the ceremony and reception, this was priceless !!

We have been married four weeks ago and family and friends still talking about the great time they had and the beautiful venue.

Definitely, we already start recommended the chapel to all our friends, we are very happy to have chosen TWC to had our wedding.

Destination weddings are all the rage but getting married in a foreign jurisdiction can be a minefield of trouble. “Legal” at your destination may not be legal here in Ontario or at your place of residence. There may be:

Waiting periods
Residency requirements
Medical tests and/or certificates required
Eligibility requirements
Etc.

In some countries what appears like a legal marriage may not be legal at all. So “Caveat Emptor” – Buyer Beware! Here are just a few of the problems that you may encounter:

Marriages that take place outside your home country are not registered and usually cannot be registered in Canada. However, marriages registered overseas are recognised for all legal purposes in Canada provided they take place legally in a country whose marriage law is recognised by Canada.

Some countries require your documents to be translated into their language and notarized as official copies.

Some countries require that documentation is submitted months before the marriage.

A Certificate of No Impediment may be required but does not exist in Canada. In its place you may obtain a Statement In-Lieu of Certificate of Non-Impediment to Marriage Abroad from the Departments of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. This will take approximately 25 working days.

There have been many instances of couples who have found out after the fact that they have never been legally married.

There is always a lot of discussion around tipping. Is it necessary? Should I tip if I get bad service? Should I tip the owner? How much should I tip? Tipping is discretionary, not obligatory, and you should never tip for bad service. On the other hand, for many people in the service industry, tips can account for a sizable portion of their income, so always tip for good service; and if possible be generous. Yes, you should tip the owner.

Tipping Etiquette varies greatly from country to country. We assembled some guidelines for tipping at weddings (and for services that you may use in preparation for your wedding) in North America. If you are getting married at an international destination we recommend that you check the local customs in that country for their tipping etiquette.

If you are having a religious ceremony it is advisable to check with a member of your clergy for any rules or requirements which you are obligated to adhere to. Non-denominational ceremonies are not bound by any rules, so you are free to create your own traditions. As a guideline, here is a traditional, frequently used wedding processional:

The mother of the bride is escorted down the aisle and shown to her seat by the brother of the bride or an usher.

The mother of the groom is escorted down the aisle by an usher.

The Officiant enters and waits at the altar after the mothers are seated.

The groom enters and takes his place at the altar.

The best man enters and takes his place at the altar.

The groomsmen escort the bridesmaids down the aisle or enter on their own and take their places.

The bridesmaids are escorted down the aisle by the ushers or proceed down the aisle on their own beginning with the one that will stand farthest away from the bride.

The ring bearer proceeds down the aisle followed by the flower girl.

The bride walks down the aisle escorted by her father. Some brides prefer to be walked down the aisle by both parents or by a brother if the father is deceased.

The atmosphere in the chapel was so quaint and intimate with all the candles and flowers and such. It was such a perfect place to have our ceremony. Many of the guests commented on how lovely it was and several asked how we found it. An ideal site for a small wedding such as ours.

You were both so wonderful making sure everything went off without a hitch. We can't thank you enough and we'd recommend your chapel in a heartbeat.

Many of us are confounded as what kind of gift and/or what amount is appropriate for a wedding gift. Here are 5 tips which will hopefully make the process a little less arduous.

Do I have to purchase a gift from the couple’s registry? No, you do not have to purchase a gift from the couple’s registry. If you are very close with the couple and prefer to give a gift that is more personal in nature, or if you are planning to write a big check, by all means go for it. However, in most cases it really makes sense to buy something from the registry because these are the items that the couple wants and/or needs (you don’t have to even like the item). If there is nothing on the registry in your price range you can get together with friends to purchase a larger item or send the couple a gift card from the store that they registered with.

How much should I spend on a wedding gift? The average price of a wedding gift is $75 - $100. This may be higher in major cities where weddings are more costly or lower in smaller cities where weddings are considerably less expensive.

Do I have to give a wedding gift if I’m not attending the wedding? If you have received an invitation to the wedding you should send a gift, although the gift can be considerably less in value than if you had attended.

Can I bring my gift to the wedding reception? Unless you are giving cash or a cheque, the answer is no. There may not be a secure area where the gifts can be stored and it may be very difficult for the couple to transport the gifts after the wedding. Ask the couple where you can send or deliver the gift prior to the wedding.

Can I give a give after the wedding? Although wedding etiquette states that you can give a give a gift up to 6 months after the wedding, it is always advisable to give a gift before the wedding or a monetary gift at the wedding.

The Toronto Wedding Chapel is located in the heart of Toronto, just off Yonge Street, between Davisville and Eglinton. The civic centres are located in North York, Scarborough, York, and East York.

The Toronto Wedding Chapel is open 7 days/week from 8:00 AM – Midnight by appointment. The civic centres are open varying hours and days of the week.

The Toronto Wedding Chapel can accommodate 30 people comfortably. Of the 4 civic centres only North York can accommodate 30 people; the other civic centres have more limited capacity.

The Toronto Wedding Chapel provides Officiants and the Officiant is included in the price of all of our weddings. The civic centres do not provide Officiants nor do their prices include the price of an Officiant. You will have to source an Officiant on your own.

The Toronto Wedding Chapel can provide two witnesses. The civic centres do not provide witnesses.

Start planning as early as possible. The earlier you start the process the better, especially if you are planning to marry on a Saturday and/or you have guests coming in from out of town. Some popular venues are routinely booked up to one year in advance. The same applies with well known photographers, caterers, etc.

Make yourself aware of the legal requirements in your state or province i.e. marriage license, residency requirements, etc.

Set a realistic budget for your expectations and stick to it.

When shopping for a wedding dress make sure the dress fits now; not when you lose that elusive ten pounds. The dress can always be altered if you lose weight. Budget tip: Wear your mother’s dress or shop vintage.

Select a venue that works with your budget and is the right size for the number of guests on your list. Budget tip: It’s cheaper to get married during the week than on the weekend and it’s cheaper to get married during the day than in the evening.

If you are planning to have an outdoor ceremony, have an indoor contingency plan. There is no such thing as guaranteed weather.

You don’t have to have a sit down multi-course meal. Budget tips: Breakfast, brunch, and lunch menus are more economical than dinner menus. You don’t have to serve a meal at all; opt for a cocktail party instead. Serve local, seasonal foods for additional savings.

A full, open bar is not a necessity. Budget tip: Serve a signature cocktail or just red and white wine.

Get the invitations out as early as possible if you have family and friends coming in from out of town. Budget tip: Send out your invitations electronically and save on paper, printing, and postage.

HOW TO WRITE YOUR OWN WEDDING VOWS

Let’s face it; wedding vows don’t speak to the hearts of many couples getting married. Traditional vows are almost clinical in nature. Once you’ve been to a few weddings I’m sure that you can recite them by heart. This has led many couples to decide to write their own vows instead. Do you want to write your own vows but are unsure where to start? Here are a few guidelines for writing your own wedding vows:

Discuss this with your partner and make sure that you are both on the same page, so to speak. Will you each write your own vows, or write vows together for both of you to recite?

Contact your Officiant and make sure he/she will accept personalized vows. You may need to recite the traditional vows in addition to your own and your Officiant may want to review your vows in advance.

Don’t say things that are highly personal or potentially embarrassing. Reserve those kinds of comments to be said in privacy.

Consider how you met, what first attracted you to your future spouse, the thing that you love most about him/her most, unique things about your relationship, shared special memories, what marriage means to you …

If there is a famous quotation or a stanza of a poem that is meaningful to you, include it.

Be sincere: speak from the heart.

Give yourself permission to be funny. Your vows don’t have to be somber.

I learned that for $40 Million, you too can have an absolutely fantastic wedding. All kidding aside, I was very impressed with Catherine Middleton, now the Duchess of Cambridge, and I think that all brides-to-be can learn a few things from her. Kate did her own make-up and wore her hair down because she wanted Prince William to recognize her when she appeared at the altar. And, it wasn’t just a stroke of luck that her make-up was superbly applied. Kate apparently had three to four lessons from make-up artist Arabella Preston.

How many brides do you know who look back on their wedding photos and hardly recognize themselves with heavy stage make-up and updos? Kate had it right. Every bride wants to look beautiful, but you should look like yourself – natural but enhanced. If you never wear your hair up, why would you choose an updo for your wedding? Work with a stylist and wear your hair in a natural looking style instead of a style that you saw in a bridal magazine. The same applies for make-up. You don’t have to do your make-up yourself if you find it difficult; you can work with a make-up artist without looking like you’ve just escaped from Madame Tussaud’s Wax Works.

The lesson that I’ve learned from the Royal Wedding is to enhance your natural beauty; not hide it by trying to look like someone else.

Since the Royal Couple chose a daytime, weekday wedding, couples around the world are now embracing the idea. Of course there are great benefits which didn’t concern the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, but will surely make an impact on most couples.

Great Cost Savings: Choosing a daytime, weekday wedding will save you lots of money! And who isn’t interested in saving money these days? Most venues offer specials or charge less for daytime, weekday weddings and you won’t have to book your preferred venue as far in advance. Brunch or lunch weddings are extremely cost effective. You are not obliged to serve a multi-course sit down meal; lighter fare is much more appropriate at a daytime wedding. In addition your bar bill will be greatly reduced. People have a tendency to drink much less during the day, particularly if they are going back to work. Instead of spirits, serve Mimosas or wine and unless you share Prince Charles’ love of harp music, you can get away with playing some of your favourite CDs during the meal.

Sapphire Engagement Rings: Catherine Middleton’s engagement was originally the engagement that Prince Charles gave to Lady Diana Spenser in 1981 but did you know that Diana picked out the ring herself? She chose it from the ready-made collection at Garrard’s, the crown jewelers. It was purchased in 1981 for $65,000. The ring is an 18 carat oval blue sapphire surrounded by 14 small diamonds in a cluster setting. Not everyone can afford 18 carat sapphires, but there are many sapphires, including those that are man-made, in all sizes and for all budgets. And if you have your heart set on Catherine Middleton’s engagement ring, I have seen knock-offs offered for as low as $39.99.
Princess Wedding Gowns: Every bride wants to feel like a princess on her wedding day and now the image of being a princess is Catherine Middleton’s wedding gown - the most sought after dress on the planet. Before the ceremony was over, factories across the globe were hard at work getting replica dresses out to the shops. The original dress is made of French Chantilly lace and English Cluny lace throughout the bodice, skirt and underskirt. The dress, made of ivory and white satin gazar, was designed to emulate an opening flower. The train measures almost nine feet long. The gown was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen's fashion house and was estimated to cost $83,000. The lace appliqué for the bodice and skirt was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework. Individual flowers were hand-cut from lace and hand-engineered onto ivory silk tulle to create the dress' design, which incorporates the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock. It looked like moose antlers. Kate Middleton has been frequently photographed wearing fascinators and as a result she is being credited with their sudden increase in popularity.
